The beautiful southern coastline of Portugal
The Algarve’s stunning stretches of golden sands and warm waters have huge appeal for beach-lovers and visitors alike. As for sports lovers, the region delights surfers, sailors and golfers all year round. Adding to all this, there are the long Summers, mild Winters and good access, making the Algarve the obvious choice for many. What is more, the region offers great value for money.
Tourism is more developed in the centre of the South coast, but the authentic Algarve is only a short drive away, revealing a rich cultural heritage and abundant natural wonders. Heading north inland, there is the beautiful medieval town of Silves and its Moorish castle, whereas towards the east you will come across Ria Formosa, a sanctuary for wild birds and small marine life. If you are really serious about unspoilt nature though, head west and explore the wild Vicentine Coast Natural Park all the way up to Alentejo. This is home to quite a few rare plants and birds, and has dramatic cliffs and gentle sandy beaches. The perfect backdrop for wild surfing, walking and cycling.
